Our youth athletic classes are designed to introduce children to an array of sports skills during the developmental years. Our exciting curriculum is taught by seasoned coaches in a non-competitive setting.

Kick, Throw, Catch!

Intro to Sports is a fun-filled, instructional based athletic program for girls. This class focuses on the basic rules and strategy of soccer, basketball and wiffle ball. Fundamental skills such as kicking, throwing, catching and dribbling will be taught.

Beach Volleyball

Practice and Play Clinic

Beach Volleyball is coming back at the IC for the summer! In partnership with CT Heat Beach Volleyball, the IC will run the following six week program.

This practice and play clinic will focus on the fundamental skills of passing, setting, attacking, serving, and blocking. It will also cover defensive positioning for the developing player looking to build a strong foundation for their game. If you’ve never played beach volleyball or are looking to improve your game both on and off the sand, this program is sure to meet your goals in a fun learning environment

Bump, set, spike!

This program is designed for volleyball players of all levels looking to advance their skills of the game through exciting and fun drills. The fundamentals of passing, serving, hitting, setting, and blocking will all be covered as well as player positioning and game strategy.

Flag Football

Touchdown Fever!

This recreational outdoor activity is offered for both boys and girls, ages 7 – 9 years-old. Flag Football, a non-contact sport, provides both fun and exercise, while teaching basic skills and strategies. The lively, controlled scrimmages provide teaching situations that can be applied to the real game of football.

The IC offers Flag Football to our members and non-members during the fall season. Classes meet once a week after school on the front field.

This weekly program is designed to teach the new or developing soccer player the fundamental skills and tactics to master the game of soccer. Class focus on developing individual skills through fun interactive games and drills.

This instructional class teaches children ages 5 – 9 years-old the basic fundamentals and strategy of basketball. Dribbling, shooting, defense and passing are just a few of the many skills that our experienced coaches will cover in this six week class.

Wiffle Ball

Join our action-packed 7-week program where kids ages 5-9 will learn the basics of the game while having a blast! From hitting to catching, teamwork to sportsmanship, your little sluggers will develop essential skills in a fun and friendly environment!

Youth Training

Flex Those Muscles and Get Fit!

Learn the essentials of strength and conditioning in this foundational training program. Weekly sessions will include instruction on the proper use of free weights, cardio and fitness machines, TRX Suspension trainer and body weight exercise in a small group setting. A good understanding of exercise science is critical for creating safe and effective workouts for young individuals.

Prerequisite 1

Jump in, submerge, resurface and swim 150 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, and then swim 50 more yards. While swimming, you must keep your face in the water and demonstrate good breath control. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed. When treading, you must use only your legs.

Prerequisite 2

Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive (head-first or feet-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping your face at or near the surface. Swimming the distance underwater is not permitted. Exit the water without using a ladder or the steps.

This course follows a blended learning model, which combines online coursework with in-person sessions. You will receive an email from the American Red Cross with instructions for accessing the online course content. To get started, log in to the Red Cross Learning Center and from your home page, click on the class. Please plan to complete all of the assigned online course modules at least 2 days prior to the corresponding in-person session. The online course content (16 modules) is designed to be completed in approximately 6 hours, with each module taking between 15 and 30 minutes to complete. You may require more or less time to complete each module. I recommend beginning the online coursework as soon as possible to ensure that you are able to complete all of the assigned online modules in advance of the corresponding in-person sessions.
