Court Reservation Policy

  • Members may reserve courts up to 48 hours in advance using the online system.
  • Time Slots: Reservations available for 1-hour or 1.5-hour slots.
  • Guest Policy: Guests may play with a member reservation.
  • Late Cancellation Fee: Cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance will be fully charged.

Cardio Tennis

Get fit the fun way with this exciting group cardio workout! Bounce to the beat with motivating music! Cardio Tennis is a high energy group fitness activity that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise, using tennis drills and games to deliver the ultimate, full body, calorie burning aerobic workout.

Point Play (Beginning May 5)

Point Play is an exciting program that puts players in a realistic game situation where you play out point after point. Need to improve your focus, anticipation or reaction time? Are you working on moving from defense to offense in your game? Point Play is a fun way to help you practice your tennis skills while getting a great workout!

Point Play Under the Lights

Join us for 1.5 hour of extreme workout on the tennis courts. We will hold these fun and challenging tennis workouts at the back courts.

This clinic is for players with a USTA rating of 3.0-3.5. It will focus on doubles strategy and fundamentals.

Learn to Play

FAIRFIELD COUNTY TENNIS LEAGUE (FCTL):

Italian Center FCTL Representative: Matthew Boyd

The Italian Center men will have 7 teams this year competing in the FCTL for all levels. This league runs for 10-11 weeks starting in mid-May and ending in July. Each team is run by a captain. Matches are Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM at the IC or various Fairfield County clubs. There will also be an in-house league at the end of the summer. If you are interested in playing on one of the men’s teams, please contact Federico Yanez at fed@italiancenter.org.

Spring Ladies Boot Camp

Get a jump on your game this spring! Camp will focus on doubles strategy, court positioning and stroke development. Open to all players. Boot camp will be held Monday, April 28th – Thursday, May 1st from 9:00am–11:30am. The cost per person is $80.00 per person for 2.5 hours of tennis. You can register with a foursome, or if you do not have a foursome you can still sign up. Please provide your level of play and we will arrange a group with other individual sign up players.

Evening boot camp will be held Tuesday, April 29th 6:00pm– 8:30pm.

2025 Ladies Teams Fees

Cost: $470 – includes 10 practices. Practices run from 5/5- 7/14 for Monday classes and 5/7-7/9 for Wednesday classes. There will be no class on May 26th.

*Please note: there will be no make-ups for missed practices except for weather.

If you are interested in competing in the Fairfield County Women’s Tennis League, please email fed@italiancenter.org by April 28 for an assessment to determine which team suits you best. This assessment is only for new players.

League Information

Fairfield County Women’s Tennis League

The Italian Center has 4 teams competing in this league. For players familiar with USTA rankings, the A team level is approximately 4.0+/3.5, the B team level is approximately 3.5/3.0, and the C team level is approximately 3.0. If you are unsure which team you belong to, please arrange for an evaluation with the Director. Interclub team matches begin mid-May and continue through July. Each team will have 10 weeks of practices and matches as scheduled. There will be pre-match warm-ups with a pro available before both home and away matches.

50+ League:

Another opportunity for match play is through the 50+ Team. This league consists of teams from lower Fairfield County. Members must be aged 50 or over to be eligible. Matches are played on either Monday or Tuesday evening (5:00 PM - 6:00 PM start time depending on host), beginning late May through mid-July.

Women’s Evening Team

Represent the IC Women’s Evening Team in our quest to beat the Middlesex Club and other local clubs! This league keeps growing! We will play every other Tuesday (home or away) at 6:30 PM, starting May 13th and going through July. The format will be 4 doubles matches. At the end of the season, the winning club will bring home the trophy!

Junior Team*

Any child 9 or over is encouraged to try out and practice with the IC tennis team. Must be able to keep score and serve. Players younger than 9 may participate if placed in an advanced orange ball indoor tennis program and/or participating in USTA U10 matches.

League matches (HOME or AWAY) are on Thursdays at 1:00pm based on pro selection and player availability. Parents need to commit to one volunteer shift (matches or activity) for the season.
Junior team fee is for 5 weeks June 23-July 25 

Pre-team: Not old enough for the team or not quite ready for matches? Pre-team will focus on getting your child match-ready!

Summer Clinics: For new players or those working on their skills: point play, drills and games.

Varsity Training: Geared toward serious junior players ages 12 and up who plan to play or aspire to play high school tennis. Focused one hour of tennis instruction with a smaller student/teacher ratio combined with an additional half-hour of performance training.

Match Play: Get a chance to play junior team matches on Sunday! Free for players signed up for Varsity Training and 2-day Spring Clinics.

Please note: All clinics require a minimum of 3 participants or the director may elect alternate options. Reservations strongly recommended. All times subject to change.

Meet the Pros

Federico Yanez
Racquet Sports Director

Prior to joining the IC, Federico was the Director of Racquets Sports at Morristown Field Club where he started and built a successful program for tennis, platform tennis and pickleball. Previously, Federico spent five years at the Bronxville Field Club in Mount Vernon, NY, as the Assistant Director of Racquets Sports.

In addition, he has worked at various clubs in the Westchester area implementing new ideas, programs and projects that have increased member participation and attracted new members.

As a player, Federico was a top-ranked junior tennis player in Argentina. At 13 years old, he moved to Miami where he competed in the highest level junior tournaments.

As an adult, he played in the Men’s Open and ITF professional tournaments. Currently, he is ranked #63 in the nation with his partner for platform tennis. After giving the professional experience a try, he developed a love of coaching and he now channels his passion and knowledge of the game into teaching his students.

Felipe Charry
Racquet Sports Pro

Felipe Charry is a tennis coach from Bogotá, Colombia, with over 10 years of experience coaching players of all ages and skill levels. He also has over 6 years of experience at the collegiate tennis level, competing in Texas and Tennessee. Felipe previously served as the Head Coach at Carson-Newman University, where he led and managed both the Men’s and Women’s tennis teams.

Felipe is passionate about helping players improve their game and achieve their goals on the court. He encourages players to have fun and enjoy the sport while offering quick, practical tips to improve their tactics.

He believes tennis is more than just a game—it’s a lifelong skill that can be enjoyed at any age.
In addition to coaching, Felipe is actively involved in the business management and finance operations of the racquet sports program at the IC, supporting the club’s growth beyond the court. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Global Business, further expanding his expertise in the international sports industry and finance.

Mercedes Chasse
Tennis Instructor

Mercedes Chasset is a tennis player from Argentina and this is her second season at the IC. She currently plays at Tennessee Wesleyan University NAIA division ranked number 6 in the nation. Mercedes started playing tennis when she was 5 years old and as a junior competed in several occasions representing Argentina.

Mercedes was ranked number 1 in the country in different age categories, Mercedes was able to travel around the world playing Cosat and ITF tournaments as well as competed in interclub tournaments in France. She started coaching when she was 16 years old, working in Argentina with adults, teenagers, and children. When she came to college in the United States, in her first year she worked as a coach at Nike Tennis Camp at Stanford University in California and in her second year she started working in country clubs such as Mount Kisco Country Club in New York (2023). Mercedes loves tennis and enjoys playing and teaching it. Her goal is for the students to enjoy the sport and improve.

Policies & Rules

General Membership & Facility Rules

  • All players must adhere to court time limits to ensure fair play for all members.
  • Proper tennis attire and non-marking shoes are required on the courts.
  • The Tennis Pro Shop offers racquet stringing, grips, balls, and accessories for purchase.
  • Tennis teams (men, women, juniors) must follow Fairfield County Tennis League regulations.
  • Members must wear tennis whites.

Prerequisite 1

Jump in, submerge, resurface and swim 150 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, and then swim 50 more yards. While swimming, you must keep your face in the water and demonstrate good breath control. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed. When treading, you must use only your legs.

Prerequisite 2

Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive (head-first or feet-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping your face at or near the surface. Swimming the distance underwater is not permitted. Exit the water without using a ladder or the steps.

This course follows a blended learning model, which combines online coursework with in-person sessions. You will receive an email from the American Red Cross with instructions for accessing the online course content. To get started, log in to the Red Cross Learning Center and from your home page, click on the class. Please plan to complete all of the assigned online course modules at least 2 days prior to the corresponding in-person session. The online course content (16 modules) is designed to be completed in approximately 6 hours, with each module taking between 15 and 30 minutes to complete. You may require more or less time to complete each module. I recommend beginning the online coursework as soon as possible to ensure that you are able to complete all of the assigned online modules in advance of the corresponding in-person sessions.
